Day 24…Thanks to Christ Our Saviour Parish, National Sidewalk Advocates for Life Team, Elk County Catholic High School, Divine Redeemer Parish, St. Matthew parish & Faithful Volunteers!

I think that many people thought when Roe v. Wade was overturned two years ago, the fight against the evil of abortion was about over.  Or, at least, that we were well on our way to its elimination in this country.  Now, we see “abortion” as an issue that some politicians think can lead to their victory at the polls.  Who would have thought…

While we can get frustrated at the seemingly slow pace of progress, it’s imperative to  keep the Faith- to continue doing what we can to try and change things.  To pray, to counsel, to try and save little lives from destruction. The battle rages on, especially in the States.  We must be patient; remember, it took 49 years to overturn Roe v. Wade…

We need to remember that God is in control, not us.  It’s His Divine Plan, not our human plan.  Things happen on His time, not ours.  His will be done, not ours.  We must surrender our will to His and be His hands and feet on Liberty Avenue, to continue the fight.

Things to do: Not give up hope, and double-down on the State level to change hearts, minds, and laws to protect the Unborn.  To persevere in this battle, we must keep praying and witnessing downtown in front of the darkest, coldest, place in Pittsburgh.

“Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts before Him.  God is our refuge.”  Psalm 62:8

“But I trust in You, O LORD; I say ‘You are my God.’”  Psalm 31:14

Check back later….

Look at the joy on these faces! Thanks to national director of Sidewalk Advocates for Life, Susan O’Reilly for visiting our Pittsburgh vigil today!

We had the pleasure of having SA Representative Susan O’Neill visit during my shift.  Susan prepared gift bags to give out to clients. One young woman who accepted the bag gladly went to Women’s Choice Network to have a pregnancy test!

I passed out literature and conversed with a man who supported our cause. Thanks to Barbara, Anthony, Andrew, Susan, and Kim for being present today…and to security guard Hutch.

I expected that just my own parish (Divine Redeemer) would be on the sidewalk during this shift, but to our delighted surprise we shared the sidewalk with an inspiring group from St. Mary’s, PA.  They had driven for two & a half hours (just one way!) and spent all morning in beautiful witness & prayer for the babies and parents.  Best of all, EIGHT of them were students from Elk Catholic High School, who held appealing signs and arranged themselves so that they and their messages could be readily seen from EVERY direction!! Catholic high schools in the Pittsburgh & Greensburg dioceses: We need MORE OF THIS, PLEASE!!!

The attractive student group was accompanied by drivers/chaperones Laurie, Cathy, and three other lovely pro-life prayer-warriors from Elk County.  Our own Divine Redeemer group was comprised of Jim, Ibie, Marion, Terri, Christian, Jane (who attends another church), and Debbie (LEGENDARY as the math teacher extraordinaire at our parish school!)  Another parishioner, Renate, was prevented by health issues from joining us on the sidewalk today but instead prayed for the babies and moms in the Adoration chapel at St. James’ Church!  We pray that moms have chosen continued Life for their babies.

We know that the prayers of children are especially precious to God, and believe that lives were saved because of them today!
Beth with a passerby

We had many passersby with some taking information and some not.

We faithfully offered information to all. Donna had a great conversation with “T” speaking God’s truth. A couple passing by told us to “get a life”. A couple that works with youth came by and information was shared with them about all the Pregnancy Resource Centers do to help. Then they went in to PP to get some resources too. That was baffling. The last comment said to Jen was: “why don’t you f’in kill yourself b!” Of course her response was: “we’re trying to say lives. We pray for a Jesus encounter for all who are hostile towards life.

God have Your way in their lives and let them see clearly as You remove the blinders and veils and the scales fall from their eyes. We ask this in Jesus name. Amen 🙏
