Day 12…Thanks to Most Precious Blood of Jesus Parish, Corpus Christi Parish, and our faithful volunteers!

When my alarm went off early this morning so I could get to the sidewalk for the first shift of the vigil, I grabbed my phone to shut it off. Not ready to get up and face the morning yet, I checked messages instead. The readings for today’s Mass were in my inbox. I opened the email and read the first lines: “How long, O LORD?  I cry for help but you do not listen!  I cry out to you, ‘Violence!’ but you do not intervene.” (Habbakkuk 1:2)

My first reaction in that tired, grumpy state was, “Seriously, how long will we have to keep praying for the end of abortion before it actually happens?” Instead of smacking me across the face the way I deserved, our patient and understanding Lord soothed me with the end of the prophecy: “…the vision still has its time, presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint; if it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late.” (Habakkuk 2:3) It was comforting to be reassured that the end is only a matter of time. Especially today, as we mark Respect Life Sunday, let’s commit ourselves to continue working as we wait in the sure hope that God DOES hear us and WILL end abortion when He knows the time is best.

Though I was initially crabby about going to the vigil today (see my reflection above,) it turned out to be a morning full of blessings. Gentle weather, a peaceful sidewalk, and faithful companions made for a meaningful and reflective time of prayer. We were able to go through 20 decades of the Scriptural Rosary and say a Chaplet of Divine Mercy, all for pro-life intentions and for Nikki’s dad, as well. Thanks to Vince, Rich, and George for witnessing to the sanctity of God’s gift of life!

There was a curious contrast today standing in front of a place that almost daily takes the lives of preborn babies and injures their Mothers when we had a beautiful fall day with plenty of sunshine and a nice fall breeze. Pleasant comments from pedestrians and friendly interaction with the homeless. A faithful army of up to 20 prayer warriors from Most Precious Blood of Jesus parish prayed fifteen decades of the rosary and a chaplet of divine mercy. Andrew, a new resident to the city prayed with us for two hours and told us of the Catholic parishes he has visited. We pray for the day when there is peace in the womb and we can enjoy this beauty that Our Lord sends us.
