Day 34…Thanks to Mary Mother of God Parish, St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish, awesome team members, and friends who came to pray with us!

Put out into the deep

“He said unto Simon, Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answered and said, Master, we toiled all night, and took nothing: but at thy word I will let down the nets.”

Luke 5:4-7

Peter was tired, he had fished all night and caught nothing.  Sounds like some of our experiences on the street.

As this 40 DFL campaign comes to an end we can look back and see it wasn’t always easy.  Rain, sleet and snow and oh yeah, the wind.  If it were easy we wouldn’t have needed you.

But we don’t quit and we come back time and time again because He is asking us to put out into the deep when we just don’t feel like it.  It can test our faith yet we have to have faith despite disappointment not just in the good times.

So, thank you for all you did to save the little ones.  Hopefully we will all hear someday “Well done good and faithful servant”.

For now we must persist. We still have to go out looking for the fish to save and then throw our nets.  How?

Continue to show up downtown. Pray for those approaching pp. Smile. Offer help. He will provide them with the grace to do what is right if they open their hearts.  They just need to have faith like us shown in our example and presence.

Did you know that when our 40 DFL campaign ends on April 13th, that we will still have dedicated prayer warriors and sidewalk advocates working the nets every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday? We welcome you to join us because the harvest is abundant but the laborers are few. Learn more at this link: https://40daysforlifepittsburgh.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/sidewalk-service.pdf

So put out into the deep and be astonished by the catch.

SIDEWALK REPORTS

MICHAEL: Cold outside, but our passions are warm as we hope and pray to end the holocaust before us and worldwide. We saw only staff personnel entering PP as early as 7:20am. We are invisible to all staff, although ignoring us conveys to us we are hitting a nerve. It warms our hearts to be greeted positively by passerbys. The Lord hears all our prayers, but it’s a mystery why he allows abortion to continue. We trust in Him.

MARY: It was a quiet morning for 9-11 last Monday 40Days shift. We had hoped that no clients would show up, however, four women did go into PP with only one accepting literature.  We prayed and were joined in prayer by Ray and Bonnie (before she opened Little Lamb,)

Susan, Tom, Tony, Karen, and Dan (missing from photo are Joanne and Joe)

TOM: Karen joined us today as we prayed a rosary for an end to abortion in front of Planned Parenthood, and she stayed with us the entire shift 1 to 3 PM today.  Besides Karen, we had 2 others (one young man who was walking by and also a woman in a wheelchair who told us that she comes down to pray once in a while since she lives nearby and spends time at St. Mary’s with the Red Door ministry.) A few people entered and exited PP during our shift, although they all came and went without responding to our greetings and offers of other resources.   One family passing by stopped to note that they are thankful we are there;  when mom was in college, she got pregnant and decided to keep their baby who turned out to be in college now as a PhD candidate!  Two other passersby (separately) decided to try and knock down the 4 signs tied around the light control box, one by untying the signs, and the other with a vengeful kick.  Neither was very successful but they seemed to be frustrated that they can’t handle the truth.  As 3 PM approached, our reinforcements arrived and some joined us for a picture!

SUSAN: We had both a young woman and a young man who separately tried to knock over signs that were tied together around the gray utility box. The woman untied one corner of the set up and later in the shift the man came by and kicked the same set up. It appeared to me that both couldn’t handle seeing the truth on the signs, or both have some deep issue going on.

DAN: Quiet shift except for one young lady walking by yelling at us about not having anything better to do with ourselves, and how’s there’s far worse things going on in the world. I don’t know what could possibly be worse than not even being able to enter the world, but we just ignored her and just prayed a little louder.

  1. I do think whenever there is aggressive action directed toward us from passersby, like kicking over/untying signs, spitting on us/fetal models, verbal threats etc, these acts should be reported to police. If they’re not, it’s possible the aggressor can become more violent next time.
