Day 19…Thanks to People of God, Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, St. Luke the Evangelist Parish, dedicated team members, and all who prayed with us!

Handling Burnout

Here we are, almost at the halfway point of the fall campaign. I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to stay motivated in the middle. We’ve been doing this for weeks and we still have weeks to go. Is there a way to get back some energy and enthusiasm?

I read an encouraging article on this topic a few months ago and knew it would be good to share with our 40 Days for Life family right about now. “Three Saints Who Knew How To Handle Burnout,” by Daniel Esparza, recounts how several saints got through periods of dryness or discouragement. The entire article (linked below) is well worth reading, but here is my favorite quote from it:

Burnout isn’t failure. These saints knew exhaustion. But they also knew how to listen — to their bodies, their hearts, and to God. They remind us that burnout can be a turning point, not an endpoint. Not everything has to be fixed. Some things just need to be offered.

We have a few more weeks to continue praying and witnessing outside PP. If you need help to keep moving, please turn to our merciful Lord and ask for the strength and perseverance to get through, one day at a time.

(from Jen) Chilly morning with a little rain and a few passers-by trying to distract us, but prayer was our focus this morning. Thanks to Vince and his Godson, Tyler; Rich, and Steve for offering all the mysteries of the Scriptural Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the end of abortion and other pro-life intentions.

People of God joined Pat this morning to praise our Lord and to intercede for His little ones!
Pat, Bob, Rich, Andrew, Katalina and Andy

(from Roseann) Very happy the rain held out for our shift. Katalina (I hope I spelled her name correctly)  was visiting Pittsburgh and came to witness with us. It is so nice to meet so many good people at our vigils. It was quiet except for a couple of negative remarks but was balanced by some positives.

This is the first Sunday since the NFL announced their halftime entertainment, which is an anti-American transvestite. This is also the first Sunday when the Steelers have a home game and there has been practically no sidewalk traffic during the game. Normally downtown is a buzz with activity when there’s a home Steelers game but not today. I even got my favorite parking spot and saw very little traffic coming in those things almost never happen with home Steelers games is that a coincidence or a God incidence?

Photo of Charlie, taken by Pat. Thanks to both of them for covering the last shift of the day so we didn’t need to end early!
