Staying Low…

A Spiritual Fog…

Do you feel it? It is very disturbing to me to see faithful pro-life Christians taking their eyes off of God, and instead focusing on the confusion that is swirling all around us, like a thick fog. They are adding their frantic cries to the cacophony that is just now ramping up and which is sure to continue to increase to a deafening volume as we get closer to November. They plead that we need to vote for this person, or not to vote for that person…frightened and scared of what may or may not happen in this next election. They are losing their peace and so are putting themselves at risk of being deceived by the confusion.

Do you remember when you were a child and were taught what to do if you were caught in a house fire?

STOP…DROP & ROLL. Right?

Those words came to me this morning as I prayed. Why do we STOP and DROP? Well, because if we are running around frantically, we are in greater danger of making a mistake. When we cannot see…it is prudent to stop until we can figure out the best course of action. And we DROP…because it is CLEARER nearest to the floor. When we get LOW, even to the point of putting our face to the ground…we can SEE.

The “foolishness” of the Cross brings clarity…

This image brought me full circle back to today’s first reading from 1 Corinthians 1:17-25, where St. Paul says:

The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

And then I thought about 40 Days for Life…praying in front of abortion clinics. How foolish that appears to the world. Especially to the “important” world of politics! Why should we waste our time looking like fools, pleading with our words and our prayers for the lives of our unborn brothers and sisters to be spared…when we could be out doing something “important”…such as getting on social media to rant about one candidate verses another…or writing or calling our representatives?

I believe the GENIUS of 40 Days for Life is that it acts like a MAGNET for the humble…while at the same time, it repels the proud.

And I believe that is exactly what is needed right now.

Let us not pretend that we know what is best about this candidate or that one. Really, it doesn’t require much intelligence to know that if we profess to be Christians, we must always resist a leader who celebrates the killing of babies. That’s a no-brainer if I ever heard one. Everything else after that is meant to confuse and divide us.

All of us pro-life Christians should be praying TOGETHER! Especially now. Let us not fear, let us not take our eyes off of Christ. If we are faithful to Him, and if we do not fear suffering and humiliation…He will not allow us to be deceived.

“PRAYER & POTLUCK AT PCUC”…the need to PRAY TOGETHER…

If anyone is interested in praying together, feel free to join me at PCUC’s office in Brookline tomorrow, (and on the last Saturday of each month), for a new initiative of PCUC, “Prayer & Potluck at PCUC”. From 6-8pm we will enjoy food and Christian fellowship for the first hour, and we will pray for the second hour. Those of us who are Catholic will pray the rosary, and non-Catholics are welcome to join. If any non-Catholics do not wish to join the rosary, they may pray together in whatever way they like, as there are many rooms at the office that can be used. If you plan to come, please RSVP by emailing me at nbruni@40daysforlifepgh.com. Just let me know what sort of food you will bring.

Remember, the Christians who PRAY TOGETHER…STAY TOGETHER.

God bless you!

Nikki
