Day 40…Thanks to Corpus Christi Parish, our incredible team of weekly volunteers, and all who joined us in prayer and outreach to moms and babies in danger!

I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.

2Tim 4:7

Although the EQT 10 K/10 Miler Race made the vigil more challenging today, it was a fitting metaphor for what we’ve done over the last six weeks. This campaign was not an easy one. We faced physical, mental, and spiritual obstacles, but God sustained us. Now we offer to Him “all our prayers and works, joys and sufferings” of these 40 Days for “all the intentions of His Sacred Heart.” We have no way of knowing what the future holds, but we place all our trust in Jesus! We know He is always working for our good, even when we can’t understand His methods.

THANK YOU for everything you did during our fall 40 Days for Life vigil to keep help and hope available outside of Planned Parenthood! PLEASE consider coming back before the spring vigil.  Our small but amazing team of year-round volunteers needs your support as they continue reaching out to women and babies in danger.  By filling in for someone who gets sick, or by serving as a partner for someone who might otherwise be alone on the sidewalk, you allow this mission of mercy to go on.

Do you feel called to help on a regular basis? It could be every week, every-other week, or even once a month…all offers are gratefully accepted! The shifts listed below are currently open for a recurring commitment. If you see one that fits your schedule, please let us know by emailing pghsaland365@gmail.com.

  • Mondays at any time
  • Tuesdays from 1:30-3:30
  • Wednesdays from 11:30-12:30 or 12:30-2:00
  • Thursdays from 9:00-10:30
  • Fridays 10:00-12:00 or 12:00-2:00

If you can’t commit to a regular sidewalk schedule but can sometimes jump in and fill a particular need, that’s incredibly helpful, too! Email pghsaland365@gmail.com to subscribe to our weekly message listing upcoming opportunities to serve.

Thank you for all your work, prayer, and sacrifice in the service of our Lord! May He bless each of you abundantly!

Here’s what happened on the sidewalk today…

7:30-9:00 Jen & Vince

Vince, Ken, Pat, Rich, and George praying peacefully despite the noise from the finish line just a few blocks down the street

Parking was difficult, temps were low, and the volume of the music (and some hecklers) was high. But that didn’t stop the faithful Sunday morning crew from gathering in prayer one last time! Thank you to Vince for setting up the sidewalk each week and leading us in the full Scriptural Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Thank you to Rich, George, and Dave who regularly joined us in prayer (although Dave was unable to go today due to the death of his mother-in-law…Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord!)

9:00-11:00 Ken & Pat

Partner Pat and I were joined in prayer today by Mike and Mary until Rich and Roesane arrived at eleven. We were able to witness to thousands who were running past in the EQT race. Many comments that were mostly positive but we did have one screamer who yelled profanities against the Catholic Church. May God have Mercy.

11:00-1:00 Roseann & Rich (check back later…)

1:00-3:00 Andrew & Sue

Corpus Christi Parish filled up the vigil from 1:00 to 3:00! Thanks to everyone who came downtown to pray during this 40 Days! If you felt called to participate during the campaign, seriously consider coming to Planned Parenthood more regularly throughout the year. A small group of volunteers keep up the witness and outreach year round, and they could use your help! Email me at AndrewSAFLPGH@protonmail.com if you are interested in learning about our Sidewalk Advocates group that helps save lives throughout the year! God bless!

Wonderful showing from Corpus Christi Parish! (with shift anchor Andy)
Prayer filled the sidewalk during the 1-3 shift, thanks to members of Corpus Christi parish!

3:00-5:00 Andy & Denise

Thanks to all who came for the Jericho March during the 3-5 shift! Pastor Dan Hendley led prayer and song and then we walked and prayed seven times around the block. May God hear our prayers, and may He have mercy on us all.

Thanks to Pastor Dan Hendley for leading prayer and song!
Prayerful walk seven times around!
Trusting God that He will cause the spiritual walls of abortion to come tumbling down…in His time!
Our Lord arrives, carried by His Excellency, Bishop Waltersheid, assisted by Deacon John Corcoran
Demons flee in the Face of the Lord…
Following Our Lord in Procession
Great turn-out for the closing!
These wonderful brothers and sisters did not forget to return to give thanks to Jesus!
Beautiful Epiphany Church (Divine Mercy Parish)
Bishop Waltersheid encouraged us by reminding us that even when our numbers are small, that God can use the ONE to change the world! He recommended a short film (20 minutes) from the 1940’s entitled “A Star in the Night) (linked to YouTube HERE). The film portrays the birth of Jesus, set in the southwest USA in the 1940’s, and shows how even the most hardened, callous and broken people can be transformed by seeing the miracle and hope that is in a newborn baby. His Excellency also encouraged me when he said that 40 Days for Life has a big effect on our entire diocese! He said that our campaign is a campaign of love and blessings for our city. Thank you dear Bishop for your leadership!!!
Thanks to Ian and his amazingly talented Schola for providing heavenly music, and to all the faithful who came out tonight!
Thanks to Divine Mercy Parish for hosting our 40 Days for Life Masses! And thanks to Fr. Jack Brennan for con-celebrating the Mass and taking part in the Jericho March and Eucharistic Procession!

  1. Thank You so much for all of the 40 days for life & all of the wonderful volunteers that put so much effort into saving the Lifes of INNOCENT CHILDREN !! Who would have ever thought that satan could convince 1/2 of our country that doing human sacrifice is what OUR COUNTRY needs !! Look at how the nazis convinced a predominately white CHRISTian nation, that it was fine to kill all the Jews !!

  2. God bless you, Nikki, and our leadership team. A baby being killed by abortion dies alone. The little kid cannot cry out for help. The little one cannot run and hide. No one solemnly wraps the sacrificed child for burial.
We witness together, our Pittsburgh 40 Days for Life team. We accompany each other. We witness for the little killed baby. Our hearts feel torn, crushed and scandalized by our neighbors’ casual silence. Witnessing for the tiny mortally assaulted baby, face to face on the abortuary sidewalk, somehow helps. Killing a baby is simply unacceptable. What part of that statement is too difficult to understand? How dare you act as if you do not understand that!

    1. And yet, darkness can rule in our heart. We can act as if we do not understand that killing a baby is unacceptable.
We can fail to recognize evil in ourselves. We can sin.
If we eventually recognize our sin and repent, we will have struggled through an enormous war zone. In His love and mercy, God will place us on a rock we could not reach.
We tell everyone we meet in pro-life conversation that we are not on a pedestal. We share what God gives us. We know how to begin our conversation with everyone because we are brothers and sisters.
