Thus says the LORD:
This is what I commanded my people:
Listen to my voice;
then I will be your God and you shall be my people.
Walk in all the ways that I command you,
so that you may prosper.
But they obeyed not, nor did they pay heed.
They walked in the hardness of their evil hearts
and turned their backs, not their faces, to me.
From the day that your fathers left the land of Egypt even to this day,
I have sent you untiringly all my servants the prophets.
Yet they have not obeyed me nor paid heed;
they have stiffened their necks and done worse than their fathers.
When you speak all these words to them,
they will not listen to you either;
when you call to them, they will not answer you.
Say to them:
This is the nation that does not listen
to the voice of the LORD, its God,
or take correction.
Faithfulness has disappeared;
the word itself is banished from their speech.
Jeremiah 7: 23-28
Oh my. There are so many things to glean from this passage. But let’s break it down in this way:
God commands that we listen to Him.
So we can be His own people. So we can prosper.
Then we read: “But they obeyed not, nor did they pay heed.
They walked in the hardness of their evil hearts
and turned their backs, not their faces, to me.”
Hm. Must be a bunch of three-year olds God is dealing with in this passage, right? Oh… if only that were true. No. He is dealing with ME in this passage. Dealing with ALL of US.
WE do not want to listen to the Lord. WE are the ones who do not like to accept correction. WE are the ones whose faithfulness has disappeared.
May this Lent remind us that God does NOT want us to stay there. God’s great desire is for us to be united with Him forever. But in order to do that, we have to LISTEN. OBEY. Turn our faces TOWARDS Him. In a word, we need the great and terrifying gift of:
But we must not fear. Whether we have been pro-life our entire lives… pro-abortion until just recently… pro-abortion now… post-abortive… abortion-minded… or in any other place… our God knows us and loves us. But He loves us so much that…. in order for us to live with Him in glory forever, we might have to fall to our knees and repent. Pray. Listen. And obey. Not so that we will be squashed down by the wrathful power of an angry God… but so we can be held next to His Fatherly heart and dwell with Him forever.
Let us repent. Let us return to the Lord. So He can once again call us HIS OWN.
Shift Manager Reports
I met Rick today, a long-time pro-lifer, and we started chatting. He said he
can sense a sweet fragrance when he walks by us.
The delivery person from the supplier (photo above) answered a few questions. He told me
the boxes he was delivering were office supplies but ‘vagina specular disposal’ was on the boxes.
There were also lots of unmarked boxes. The man is Roman Catholic. Does not feel that
he is complicit with the abortion industry. I said his company is. He said he
was just doing a job. I will pray he finds another one. He acknowledged “yes”
when I asked if talking to me could get him in trouble. He is retired
from another job.
Marian Z. and a lady from St. Teresa’s stopped by to witness today. Another lady stopped by to say how horrible abortion was, and how she supported what we were doing. She talked for quite a while. It was very nice.
From Marilyn:Today during my shift at the vigil, I was blessed to meet so many wonderful praying folks from all over. We had prayers from Lincoln Place Church of the Nazarene, St. Bernard, All Saints, St. Gregory, St. Alexis and Holy Wisdom! We had a prayerful time at the vigil and several folks were receptive to receive handouts.One elderly woman accepted information on post-abortion healing. She regrets the abortion she had many, many years ago. Thanks to all who came to pray on this cold, winter day!-Marilyn
From Lisa K. (me):I am so thankful for all prayer volunteers who came to pray with me today! God bless you all!From Helen:Today I felt like the 40 Days for Life movement is what the early Christian community must have been.When I arrived at PP, Lisa was her beaming, spritely self. As she finished her shift, the two Bills were on either side of the PP doors. They came because Nikki asked, and they stayed until Joe and Michelle arrived. Then Francesca from St. Paul Cathedral parish arrived–because Nikki asked.As we started to pray the rosary, a black lady I saw last week came along and said to me, “YOU were here last week, too.” I was surprised that she had even noticed me. We welcomed her into our prayer cluster. When Francesca asked her where she lives, I heard her say (and I could be wrong) “I don’t have a home. I live in a tent…” I hope I heard it wrong. She said, “Do you have any cards with money left on them? I’m hungry.” I gave her two breakfast bars, and she went away satisfied.Just as she left, two men, one older and disheveled and the other young and aloof, came out of “the” bar. The older man heard “Hail Mary,” and he said he wanted to pray with us. He was happy to realize he remembered the Hail Mary. Then the younger man called him away.Right on time, Rick arrived for his shift at 5:00. As I walked
to the parking garage, I felt blessed to be part of such a noble company.-HelenFrom Rick:
God is good all the time. All the time God is good. Thanks so much to Kathy, Joe & Michelle for their prayerful witness for life, for defending the precious lives of unborn children, and for their assistance to women in need. The 5-7 PM shift went well. Devion stopped by and asked if we could come to his home state of Florida and pray and witness for life.Two pregnant mothers stopped by, and were most grateful for the information provided to them of Pro-Life organizations they can turn to for help. Please pray for one man who stopped by and was very troubled. He was concerned about the number of people in the world and appeared not to believe in God. Pray that he comes to realize how much God loves and cares for him, and for each and every person in the universe. As we all know, God truly does provide for us and loves each one of us. Thanks to Diane and Tom for their faithfulness in taking care of all the equipment and supplies.God Bless!Rick
