Today was a wonderful beginning to our 40 Days for Life! I had the great privilege of standing vigil with Fr. Rodolph Wakim, of Our Lady of Victory Maranite Catholic Church in Carnegie. We may have even seen a girl turn away from Planned Parenthood! Here is what happened:
At about 8:30am, an attractive young black woman stopped to talk with us. She asked questions about why we were there, and seemed to be “with us”. I gave her some information about 40 Days for Life, the local pregnancy resource sheet with the listing of all the crisis pregnancy centers…and a tiny 12-week fetal model. She left, and Fr. Wakim and I resumed our witness. About 10 minutes later, she came back and asked me, “Do you know if they do ultrasounds in here?” I told her that they did, but only for the purpose of determining the gestation of the pregnancy, so they would know which abortion method to use and how much to charge. I then began to suspect that she was planning to go to Planned Parenthood all along, but was stopped by seeing a priest there. So I asked her, “Why…do you know someone who needs an ultrasound?” At this she nodded, yes. I said, “You?” She began to cry and admitted that she thought she was pregnant. I advised her to go to Women’s Choice Network instead of Planned Parenthood. Since it was only 9am, and Women’s Choice didn’t open until 10:00, I suggested that she get a coffee at Brueger’s to kill some time. I gave her a few dollars, since she didn’t have any money…and she walked away, in the direction of Bruegers. I don’t know what happened after then, but I pray that a baby may be saved…because a busy priest made time in his schedule to be a witness in front of an abortion clinic.
The second shift today was held by a wonderful group from Indiana County…St. Bernard of Clairvaux parish (and some other parishes from that area.) Here is a photo of them:
This group really had it going on! They even had their own song and prayer books…and they never stopped praying and singing for almost 4 hours! They were a powerful light to those passing by and to the clinic staff! I could just feel the power of their prayers barraging against the brick wall of Planned Parenthood! Here are some photos of them singing:
Here are some more pictures from today:
Barbara, the third shift manager reported that the Ryan Catholic Newman Center (Oratory in Oakland) had a great group of prayer volunteers who stayed until 7pm! If she sends a story from her shift, I will post it here.
